Cultures around the world have created entire menus of lamb dishes because of it’s signature flavor and versatility in the kitchen. Traditional soups, stews, chops and more can be made from lamb, and chefs everywhere are coming up with new and exciting ways to prepare it everyday. Whether you are a student earning your online culinary certificate or just want to add a little variety to next week’s dinner rotation, lamb is the perfect choice for the summer season. Here are a few dishes to try out for your next lamb experience:
Lamb meatballs
A nice twist on a classic dish, lamb meatballs are perfect for summer parties, weekend barbecues or family picnics. They don’t require too much preparation and are bursting with flavor that you can’t get with traditional ground beef. All you need is a pound of ground lamb, dried currants, chopped pine nuts, onion powder, sweet paprika, Panko bread crumbs and an egg. Mix all the ingredients together, roll into balls a bit smaller than your palm and place in a nonstick cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes.
Lamb biryani
This beloved traditional Indian and Pakistani dish uses a number of herbs and spices to create a truly unforgettable food experience. There are a number of biryani recipes online, but many call for much of the same ingredients including mint, cilantro, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, garlic, red pepper, lemon juice, saffron, warm milk and ginger. You will want to prepare the basmati rice before you start on the biryani itself. Fry the assortment of vegetables, herbs and spices in a large skillet and then add the lamb. You do not want to cook the meat too long, just until it begins to brown. Your lamb biryani might take a while to perfect, but when you do,it is sure to be a hit at your next outdoor dinner party.
Grilled lamb chops
Nothing gets the summer seasons started like firing up the grill and throwing a barbecue party with family and friends. While traditional hamburgers, steaks, hot dogs, bratwurst, and different types of sausages make excellent party meals, it wouldn’t hurt to try something off the regular menu. Lamb chops are the perfect way to break the meat monotony. Season the chops with coriander, salt and pepper. Place on the grill until the meat is lightly browned or cooked to the desired level, which takes approximately 3-4 minutes per side. You can serve the lamb chops with vegetables like cherry tomatoes and grilled zucchini slices. Drizzle some lemon over the meat for an additional burst of flavor.
