The Vietnamese-style hot sauce Sriracha has been getting a lot of time in the spotlight these past few months. The citizens of Irwindale, Calif., filed a lawsuit against the company that makes the hot sauce, claiming harmful pepper fumes were coming from a nearby factory. Subway, the sandwich restaurant chain, recently added the red chili sauce to its menu. Now a Seattle-based company, J&D Foods,  is adding Sriracha-flavored candy canes to their roster of novelty food items. Whether you are a first-time Sriracha eater or a student studying sauces for an online cooking class, the sauce will make its way to you sooner or later.

J&D Foods, the creator of products such as baconnaise, bacon soda and Sriracha popcorn, revealed its latest creation earlier in November.  The company is preparing for the Christmas season and thinks that the new candy cane flavor will be one of its biggest sellers, and even gets the attention of St. Nick.

According to J&D’s website, “There’s a reason Santa comes down your chimney – he likes it hot!”

The candy canes appear to be of the traditional, peppermint-flavored variety, but subtle differences can be seen. Instead of the basic red and white stripes, the Sriracha canes will include a thin green stripe. When an unsuspecting family member or friend comes around to try one, however, they will experience the signature spice and sweetness of the famous sauce.

The manufacturer suggests crushing the candy canes and serving them over ice cream or as a mixer for holiday beverages.

J&D Foods has been developing specialty food items since 2007. Its first product was bacon salt. Other products include bacon ranch dressing, envelopes with flavored adhesive, and lip balm.
